PIMFF to Showcase Mountain Films at PNCA

Islamabad: Pakistan International Mountain Film Festival (PIMFF) featuring up to 26 films on nature, tourism, travel, landscapes, and mountain biodiversity kicked off at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). It is one of only three mountaineering film festivals in Asia and is well-known internationally in the climbing and cinema communities.

Wajahat Malik and Maryam Cheema created and established PIMFF in 2015, which is the only festival of its sort honouring Pakistani filmmaking. The event is run by the Islamabad-based production company Eyebex Films. PIMFF aimed to unite filmmakers, artists, and mountaineers with outdoor lovers on a common stage for discussion and idea-sharing.

According to Wajahat Malik, “PIMFF is still a significant international platform that supports independent filmmaking in Pakistan and promotes outdoor and alpine sports.” Wajahat Malik is a travel and adventure enthusiast and filmmaker, as well as an adventure sportsman, a mountaineer and television broadcaster.

He is regarded as one of Pakistan’s forerunners in adventure filmmaking and established the PIMFF to assist foster respect for Pakistan’s mountain cinema and highlight its mountain assets. He also serves as the Managing Director of the Eyebex Films.

The jury of film festival includes Jamal Shah, a well-known Pakistani television actor, singer and fine artist, is on the jury for the film festival; Faisal Rehman a well-known figure of silver screen and television; Ian Wall a member of the group that created the ‘original’ Kendal Mountain Film Festival in 1980; and Salman Shahid one of Pakistan’s top actors who appeared in a number of comedies, stage productions and TV programmes.
