Sialkot: Pilot projects have begun in 20 model schools in Sialkot district to provide government school students with a clean and healthy educational environment.
Deputy Commissioner Adnan Mehmood Awan informed that ideal security arrangements are being ensured in schools, including clean washrooms, the supply of clean drinking water, furniture, bright classrooms and decorations, with the support of philanthropists and civil society.
DC Awan was addressing a ceremony organised in the DC Office in the honour of students, teachers and principals of government schools who had presented national songs, tableaus and speeches during the main functions of Pakistan Independence Day and Defence Day.
School heads should also play a major role and improve the quality of the infrastructure and facilities in schools as much as possible with the aid of philanthropists other than the old boys who have graduated from the schools, Adnan Awan added.
Adnan Mehmood further stated that the government provides billions of rupees every year for the promotion of education. Teachers should become role models, take responsibility for the education and training of the nation, and perform their duties with sincerity and honesty, he maintained.
The education department is the largest department of the district administration, with more than 15,000 employees, he said, adding that proactive measures are being taken to address the issues facing the education department’s staff.
Mehmood also asserted that it is the duty of local officials to facilitate payment of other dues, such as the leave encashment of retiring teachers, in a convenient and transparent manner. APP
