Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has launched Phase 2 of the Clinics on Wheels initiative in Rawalpindi, aimed at expanding primary healthcare services to underserved communities.
The second phase adds 25 mobile health units to the existing fleet, including six equipped with ultrasound facilities and 19 stocked with essential medicines. Each unit is staffed with a qualified doctor and a dispenser to provide on-the-spot medical care in remote and low-access areas.
A formal inauguration ceremony was held at the Commissioner’s Office on Friday, where senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and Member of the National Assembly Tahira Aurangzeb, along with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema, officially launched the initiative.
During the event, Tahira Aurangzeb inspected the newly deployed vehicles, assessing their medical equipment, availability of emergency nutrition packs for malnourished patients, and overall preparedness.
She commended the dedication of the medical teams and urged them to serve the public with compassion and commitment. Highlighting the Punjab government’s health agenda, she noted that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is committed to ensuring accessible and quality healthcare for all, with Clinics on Wheels playing a key role in delivering services at citizens’ doorsteps.
The mobile clinic program is part of a broader provincial strategy to strengthen primary healthcare infrastructure and close the gap in medical access across Punjab.
