Petrol Pumps Suffer Millions in Losses Due to Confusion Over Fuel Price Announcement
News Desk
Islamabad: Several petrol pumps across the country incurred losses amounting to millions of rupees following an announcement made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding a reduction in petrol prices.
On the instructions of the Prime Minister, the petrol price reduction was broadcasted on TV channels until 11 pm, causing confusion and financial turmoil among fuel stations.
The incident near Aabpara Chowk in the federal capital exacerbated the situation when the price of petrol was suddenly increased to Rs 258 following an official press release.
This adjustment was made without awaiting the formal notification from the Prime Minister.
During the interim period, unaware of the pending official confirmation, people flocked to petrol pumps to fill their tanks at the reduced price.
The Ministry of Finance later issued a notification stating that the petrol price would be reduced by Rs 4 instead of the initially reported Rs 15, contradicting the Prime Minister’s earlier announcement.
The Ministry of Finance dismissed the Prime Minister’s directive as a misunderstanding and declared the lower price as the previous rate.
Despite the media’s continuous broadcast of the Prime Minister’s announcement, no official clarification was provided by the government or the Prime Minister’s office, leaving petrol pump owners in a financial predicament.
Petrol pump owners, who adhered to the Prime Minister’s announcement as the final directive, found themselves in a dire situation, facing significant losses due to the premature price reduction.
The lack of coordination and communication from the relevant authorities has left these fuel stations struggling to recover from the financial impact of the confusion.
