Petrol Price Hiked by Rs2.43 to Rs265.45 per Litre

Islamabad: The government has increased the price of petrol by Rs2.43 per litre for the next fortnight, raising it to Rs265.45 per litre effective November 1, according to a notification issued by the Finance Division on Thursday.

The price revision, based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the relevant ministries, also includes an increase in the rates of other petroleum products.

High-speed diesel (HSD) has become costlier by Rs3.02, now priced at Rs278.44 per litre. Kerosene oil has risen by Rs3.34 to Rs185.05 per litre, while light diesel oil (LDO) has increased by Rs1.22 to Rs163.98 per litre.

The latest hike comes amid fluctuations in global oil prices and the impact of recent US sanctions on major Russian producers. Earlier reports had anticipated a rise of up to Rs2.34 per litre in petroleum prices for the new fortnight.

In the previous review, the federal government had reduced fuel prices — cutting petrol by Rs5.66 per litre to Rs263.02, HSD by Rs1.39 to Rs275.41, kerosene oil by Rs3.26 to Rs181.71, and LDO by Rs0.49 to Rs162.76 per litre.

Petrol is primarily consumed by private vehicles, rickshaws, and two-wheelers, meaning the increase will disproportionately affect middle- and lower-middle-income groups who rely on it for daily commuting.

High-speed diesel, on the other hand, is widely used in heavy transport vehicles, buses, trains, and agricultural machinery such as tractors and tube wells. The rise in diesel prices is expected to exert inflationary pressure by increasing the cost of transportation and food items, particularly vegetables.
