Peshawar Literature Festival: Empowering Women Poets’ Voices

Peshawar: By giving women a forum to tell their stories and by dispelling preconceptions about women, ‘Peshawar Literature Festival’ featured presentations of works and poems by women poets.
Peshawar Mayor Haji Zubair Ali acknowledged the indispensable role of women in various social activities and highlighted their achievements in literature and across all facets of life.
Speaking at the inaugural ‘Peshawar Literary Festival’, Haji Zubair noted the city’s efforts to create designated parks for women and expressed the intention to continue organising similar events for women in the future.
The festival, spanning five days and exclusively dedicated to women writers from the province, took place at the District Council Hall on Monday.
The event was held through the collaborative efforts of Benazir Women’s University (BWU) and the Dosti Welfare Organisation, with the primary goal of fostering a far deeper connection between women and literature.
BWU Vice Chancellor Professor Safia announced plans for 50 diverse sessions across various locations.
Special guest Parveen Azam Khan emphasised the diverse linguistic backgrounds of the women involved, including Pashto, Urdu, Hindi and other regional languages.
TV Anchor Bushra Farrukh underscored the significance of such gatherings sheds light on the portrayal of women in literature.
