PECA Ignorance Leads to TikToker’s Arrest
News Desk
Islamabad: A TikToker, Rehman alias Mani, faced serious consequences after Lahore police arrested him for uploading a video showing himself displaying weapons on TikTok, reported a private News Channel on Tuesday.
This incident highlights a broader issue of lack of awareness among citizens about the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and its strict regulations regarding online content.
According to officials, Rehman’s video openly displayed weapons, which is prohibited under existing laws. The Station House Officer (SHO) of Qila Gujjar Singh Police, Rana Qadir, confirmed that the police recovered a pistol and bullets from the TikToker’s possession.
SP (Civil Lines) Chaudhary Asr Ali emphasized that there is a complete ban on keeping and displaying weapons on social media platforms to prevent misuse and maintain public safety.
However, this case also reflects the challenges citizens face in understanding the legal boundaries of online expression. Many users remain unaware of PECA provisions and the serious legal repercussions of violating these rules.
Authorities have praised the Qila Gujjar Singh police for taking swift action, but the situation underscores the urgent need for greater public education on cyber laws to help citizens navigate digital platforms responsibly and avoid inadvertent offenses.
