PDMA Warns of Heavy Rain, Snowfall Across KP from Dec 30
News Desk
Peshawar: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and snowfall across most districts of the province from December 30 to January 1.
According to the advisory, rain and thunderstorms are expected in several districts, including Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Abbottabad, Bajaur, and North and South Waziristan during the three-day period. Mountainous areas such as Chitral and Swat are likely to receive snowfall.
The PDMA cautioned that heavy snowfall may render roads slippery and could lead to temporary closures in tourist destinations including Naran, Kaghan, and the Galiyat. There is also a heightened risk of landslides and avalanches in hilly and mountainous regions.
In view of the forecast, the PDMA has directed all deputy commissioners and relevant departments to take immediate precautionary measures. Authorities have been instructed to ensure the clearance of drainage systems, secure billboards and signboards, and closely monitor water levels in rivers and streams.
The PDMA also advised tourists and travelers heading to snowbound areas to carry adequate food supplies, drinking water, warm clothing, and essential medicines. Citizens have been urged to avoid staying near electric poles, billboards, and weak or old structures during strong winds and heavy rainfall.
A PDMA spokesperson said the authority’s emergency operations center remains operational round the clock. The public can seek information or assistance by calling the toll-free helpline 1700.
