Islamabad: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert warning that most districts across Punjab are expected to receive rainfall over the next 24 hours.

“A fresh spell of monsoon rains is forecast to begin in Punjab from today,” a PDMA spokesperson said in an advisory issued on Monday.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed local administrations to remain on high alert throughout the duration of the rain spell.

According to the latest update from the disaster management authority, the Indus River is currently experiencing a low-level flood at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa. Meanwhile, water levels in the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers remain normal.

The PDMA also reported that water flow in the Rod Kohis (hill torrents) of Dera Ghazi Khan and nearby streams and drains is at normal levels.

So far this monsoon season, heavy rains have resulted in 163 fatalities and injuries to 579 people across Punjab. Additionally, 215 houses have been damaged and 121 livestock animals have perished due to rain-related incidents, the PDMA added.
