PDMA Punjab Issues Flood Alert Ahead of Monsoon

News Desk

Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a high alert regarding a potential rise in water levels across all major rivers in the province, in anticipation of a strong monsoon spell expected to begin on July 6.

In a statement released Wednesday, the PDMA warned that water levels in major rivers and adjoining streams may start increasing from July 7, posing a significant risk of flash flooding, particularly in the Dera Ghazi Khan division.

The alert also highlights the threat of urban flooding in major cities and warns of possible landslides in vulnerable areas of Murree and Galiyat due to heavy rains.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has urged farmers to take precautionary measures and follow official advisories. He has directed all Deputy Commissioners across Punjab to remain on high alert and ensure the preparedness of relevant departments for any emergency response.

The PDMA has activated its provincial control room and all district emergency operation centers, placing them on round-the-clock high alert. Rescue agencies, including Rescue 1122, have been instructed to keep their staff and equipment ready to deal with any situation.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather, stay away from dilapidated buildings, and keep children away from stagnant water in low-lying areas. The public is also warned to avoid open spaces during lightning and thunder.

For assistance during emergencies, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
