PDMA Issues GLOF Alert, Flash Flood Amid Rising Temperatures

Peshawar: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Wednesday issued an alert of flash floods in Upper and Lower Chitral, Kohistan, Upper and Lower Dir, and Swat due to the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF).
The PDMA has ordered the relevant district administrations and other line departments to take precautions and be attentive to the local residents at risk. In addition to making sure that emergency and rescue services are available,
PDMA spokesperson said that the authority advised travellers to avoid making needless trips to these locations and contact the district administration, PDMA, or tourism authority before planning any activity.

The spokesman stated, “PDMA’s emergency operation centre is fully operational and people should report any untoward incident on helpline 1700.”
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a GLOF alert for Gilgit-Baltistan and some parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province as temperatures are expected to increase by up to 6 degrees in the days ahead which could cause floods.
District administrations in the relevant regions have been urged to exercise prudence and remain vigilant. As per advice issued by the PMD district administration of Gilgit, Ghezer and Diamer advised people to carefully travel across the region nowadays.
