PDMA Issues Fresh Rain Alert for Punjab

APP Islamabad: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a fresh rain alert, prompting all relevant departments in Punjab to remain on high alert, as confirmed by PDMA Director-General Irfan Ali Kathia. This response follows instructions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. In a statement on a private news channel, Kathia assured that the authorities are fully prepared to address any emergency situations arising from anticipated rainfall until October 8. He emphasized that control rooms are actively monitoring conditions around the clock, with rescue personnel and machinery on standby. Kathia reported that the water flow in all rivers and canals remains normal, and measures have been implemented to ensure effective water drainage in low-lying areas of the province. He advised citizens to steer clear of hanging electricity wires and mud houses and to contact Help Line 1129 in case of any rain-related emergencies. According to a PDMA spokesperson, recent rainfall measurements in the region include 49 mm in Rawalpindi, 25 mm in Murree, 35 mm in Jhelum, and 29 mm in Mandi Bahauddin. Other areas, including Gujranwala and Sialkot, received 23 mm, while Lahore, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Sargodha, and Narowal experienced moderate to light rain in the past 24 hours.
