PDMA Issues Alert as Fresh Monsoon Spell Set to Hit KP from July 27

Peshawar: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has issued a fresh alert following a forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicting another spell of monsoon rains across the province from July 27 to July 31.
According to the PDMA, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds is expected to hit several districts, including Dir, Swat, Chitral, Kohistan, Malakand, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Hangu, and Kurram.
The authority has warned of the risk of flash flooding in seasonal streams and nullahs, particularly in areas such as Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Galiyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan. Landslides in mountainous regions and urban flooding in low-lying areas are also likely.
Significant water level rises are expected in the Swat, Chitral, and Panjkora rivers, with the potential to trigger flood-like conditions.
District administrations, Rescue 1122, and other relevant departments have been directed to stay on high alert. Measures include traffic management on vulnerable routes, clearing of drains and waterways, and full preparedness of emergency response teams.
The PDMA has advised farmers to harvest and store crops safely ahead of the rains and urged livestock owners to secure their animals. Citizens are requested to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from exposed areas during storms and lightning activity.
