PCB Stands by Haris Rauf in Bullying Incident
News Desk
Lahore: Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, strongly denounced the disrespectful behavior exhibited by a cricket fan towards star fast bowler Haris Rauf and expressed unwavering support for him in the face of this regrettable incident.
Naqvi also cautioned that legal actions would be pursued against the perpetrator.
The incident took place in the United States of America (USA), where a cricket fan directed offensive remarks at Haris Rauf in a hotel or public setting, possibly stemming from frustration over Pakistan’s early exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies & USA.
During the tournament, Haris Rauf emerged as one of the leading wicket-takers alongside Muhammad Amir, securing seven wickets in four matches.
His standout performance included figures of 3-21 against India, although Pakistan ultimately lost from a commanding position. Pakistan finished third in the points table, advancing with a superior run-rate compared to the second-placed USA, who qualified with 5 points.
Mohsin Naqvi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his condemnation, stating, “I strongly condemn the appalling incident involving Haris Rauf. Such actions against our players are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Those involved must promptly apologize to Haris Rauf. If not, legal action will be pursued against the responsible individual.”
Meanwhile, Haris Rauf, who achieved the milestone of 100 T20I wickets during the World Cup, addressed the incident in a tweet on X, highlighting how a disgruntled cricket fan had insulted his family in a fit of anger.
He emphasized the importance of respecting individuals and their families, regardless of their profession.
The cricketing community rallied behind Haris Rauf, condemning the incident as unjustified and unfortunate.
