Parvez Aslam Group Sweeps RCCI Executive Body Election 2024

Rawalpindi: The Mian Parvez Aslam group triumphed in the 2024 Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Executive Body Election, with all its candidates from the Associate Class securing 10 seats.
The opposing group, making its first appearance in 15 years, suffered a massive defeat, losing by a wide margin.
Out of 1927 votes cast, more than 1700 – approximately 90 percent – went to candidates from the Mian Parvez Aslam group. The total number of eligible voters in the Associate Class was 3305, with 1890 valid votes, resulting in a voter turnout of around 60 percent. Three votes were canceled, and 26 votes were rejected.
RCCI President Saqib Rafiq and Group Leader Sohail Altaf congratulated the winning candidates. They hailed the election as historic, with high voter turnout, noting that their group has been serving the business community for 35 years and represents markets across the region.
According to the announcement by the Election Commission, consisting of Tariq Mughal, Rizwan Haider Mashhadi, and Malik Zahoor, the winning candidates from the Mian Parvez Aslam group include Kamran Saeed (1726 votes), Atiq Ahmed Malik (1732), Tahir Taj Bhatti (1726), Waseem Minhas (1730), Akhtar Amin (1723), Khalid Farooq Qazi (1722), Ali Waqas (1731), Sardar Tanveer Sarwar (1724), Hamza Munir (1717), and Ayad Afzal Sheikh (1696).
In contrast, the opposition group’s candidates, including Muhammad Akhtar (137 votes), Mehboob Elahi (140), Usman Sheikh (147), and others, were defeated by a significant margin, with their vote count ranging between 134 and 159. Independent candidate Malik Shahbaz Rashid received 140 votes.
Next week, the 20-member executive body, comprising corporate and associate members, will elect the chamber’s president, senior vice president, and vice presidents.
