Islamabad: Pakistan’s top political leadership has reaffirmed its resolve to eliminate terrorism and respond firmly to cross-border threats following a successful Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) operation against militants in Lakki Marwat and recent drone attacks allegedly linked to Afghan Taliban elements.
President Asif Ali Zardari commended CTD officers and personnel for a successful operation in the Shagai area of Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where six militants associated with Fitna-al-Khawarij were killed.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Secretariat Media Wing, the president praised the bravery, professionalism and timely action of the CTD team. He said operations against terrorists operating with external support were crucial for maintaining peace and stability in the country.
The president reiterated that the state was confronting both internal and external terrorist threats with full force and warned that any attempt to target Pakistan’s urban areas would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He added that Pakistan’s armed forces and security institutions remained fully prepared to defend the country and protect its citizens.
Separately, President Zardari strongly condemned rudimentary drone attacks allegedly carried out by elements of the Taliban targeting civilian areas in Pakistan.
He said the “illegitimate Taliban regime” had crossed a red line by attempting to attack civilians while Pakistan continued to pursue efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the Gulf region and West Asia.
The president also expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of civilians, including children, injured by drone debris in Quetta, Kohat and Rawalpindi.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the CTD for the successful operation in Lakki Marwat, praising the professional capabilities of the officers who eliminated six militants during the action.
He said the successful operation reflected the preparedness and determination of Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies in the ongoing fight against terrorism. The prime minister emphasized that the war against terrorism would continue until it was completely eradicated from the country.
“The entire nation is proud of the sacrifices and dedication of our security forces and law enforcement agencies,” he said, adding that the government stood shoulder to shoulder with them in their mission to cleanse the country of militants.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar commended the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for countering what he described as disinformation by the Afghan Taliban on social media.
In a post on X, Tarar said the ministry’s fact-checking mechanism had exposed another false claim made by Taliban-linked accounts, adding that such allegations lacked any factual basis.
He noted that Pakistan regularly shared pictorial and video evidence documenting losses suffered by militant groups, including Fitna-al-Khawarij.
Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi also paid tribute to the CTD for the successful operation, praising the bravery and professionalism of the personnel involved.
Abbasi said the entire nation stood firmly with its security forces in the fight against militancy and stressed that the struggle against terrorism would continue until it was completely eradicated.
The statements by Pakistan’s leadership come amid heightened tensions and growing concerns over cross-border militant activities from Afghanistan, with authorities warning that attacks targeting Pakistani civilians would be met with a firm response.
