Baku: Pakistan showcased its achievements in clean water access at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan. The initiative, a collaboration between the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC), was presented at the Pakistan Pavilion.

COP29 serves as a critical international platform addressing climate change, bringing together world leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to assess progress since COP28 and strengthen commitments to ambitious climate goals. This year’s conference focuses on emission reduction strategies, financing for adaptation and mitigation, and enhancing global cooperation.

The KOICA-supported project aligns with these themes, reflecting Pakistan’s commitment to addressing water quality issues and promoting sustainable development. Key accomplishments include advancements in water quality infrastructure, training programs, and monitoring systems, positively impacting thousands across the country.

KOICA President Mr. Chang Won Sam remarked, “We are thrilled to share this success story with the global community at COP29. Our partnership with the Government of Pakistan through the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination has been pivotal in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) in Pakistan.”

During a bilateral meeting between KOICA’s leadership and the MoCC&EC Coordinator at the Pakistan Pavilion, both parties agreed to continue fostering this partnership. They also explored future collaborations in combating smog, capacity building in carbon markets, and implementing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement to address the climate crisis effectively.

The showcase included a detailed presentation, a video documentary, and a constructive dialogue with donors and stakeholders. These efforts highlighted the project’s achievements and its potential for replication in other regions worldwide.

This initiative underscores Pakistan’s dedication to clean water access and positions it as a global leader in sustainable development, offering a model for other nations to emulate.
