Islamabad:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday extended heartfelt Diwali greetings to the Hindu community in Pakistan and across the world, reaffirming his government’s commitment to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens, irrespective of faith.

In his message on the occasion of Diwali — the festival of lights — the prime minister said the celebration symbolized the triumph of light over darkness and hope over despair. “As we celebrate Diwali, let us collectively look toward a future filled with positivity and unity. As Pakistanis, we take pride in the diversity of our society, which strengthens our national fabric and enriches our shared culture,” he remarked.

The prime minister appreciated the invaluable contributions of the Hindu community to Pakistan’s social, economic, and political development, noting that their role continues to strengthen the nation. He lauded members of the Hindu and other minority communities who work shoulder to shoulder with their Muslim compatriots for the country’s progress.

Reaffirming the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the premier said the government remains dedicated to upholding equality, freedom, and religious harmony for all communities regardless of religion, race, or caste.

Concluding his message with “Happy Diwali,” the prime minister prayed that the festival would bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to the lives of the Hindu community and foster greater unity among people of all faiths.

Meanwhile, the Hindu community across Pakistan celebrated Diwali with traditional enthusiasm and religious fervor. Homes and temples were illuminated with earthen lamps, symbolizing the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. The festival also commemorates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and his triumph over the demon king Ravana.

In various parts of the subcontinent, Diwali also honors Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity, while for the Sikh community, it coincides with Bandi Chhor Divas, marking the release of Guru Hargobind Ji from imprisonment.

This year’s theme, “Light Over Darkness, Unity Through Harmony,” highlights the spirit of peace, tolerance, and togetherness among diverse communities. Special prayers and cultural events were held at temples and community centers nationwide, with authorities ensuring security arrangements and extending greetings to the Hindu community for a joyous and peaceful Diwali.
