Islamabad: Gitex Global 2024, the world’s largest technology and startup fair, concluded in Dubai on Friday, spotlighting Pakistan’s information and communication technology (ICT) sector and startup ecosystem to a global audience.

The event highlighted Pakistan’s immense market potential, particularly in the Middle East, as it seeks to expand its IT exports and foster international partnerships.

Running concurrently with Gitex Global was the North Star Startup Show, where ten Pakistani startups and incubators garnered strong interest from investors across the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, and beyond.

In total, 80 Pakistani companies and startups participated in the event, aiming to boost IT exports and attract investments while forming strategic partnerships with major global IT firms.

Under the federal Ministry of IT and Telecommunications, ten Pakistani startups, participating in the Ignite programme, showcased innovative solutions in healthcare, aerospace, energy, gaming, travel technology, and smart cities.

These startups presented their projects to global investors, potential partners, and technology enthusiasts, highlighting the country’s innovation and entrepreneurial potential.

Hassan Nisar, CEO of Metrix Pakistan, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “Working with Gitex Global is a major opportunity for Pakistan. Our goal is to attract business and elevate our country’s role in the global tech scene.”

He added that Pakistan’s startups, with their creativity and forward-thinking solutions, are well-positioned to secure global investment and growth opportunities through international collaborations.

Yasim Nisar, a representative of Metrix Pakistan, speaking from Dubai, expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan’s tech industry. “AI-powered agriculture, blockchain systems, and cybersecurity solutions can help Pakistan overcome its challenges and position itself as a regional tech hub,” he said.

The Gitex Global event, hosted at the Dubai World Trade Centre, featured cutting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and sustainable technology, with participation from tech giants, startups, and industry leaders.

Pakistan’s strong presence at the event further solidified its status as a key player in the global technology industry.

Earlier this month, Pakistan was honoured as the ‘Tech Destination of the Year’ at Gitex Global 2024, an achievement that enhanced the country’s reputation on the global tech stage.

With IT services being exported to over 170 countries at operational costs up to 70 percent lower than in North America, Pakistan demonstrated its strong value proposition at this prestigious event.
