Pakistan to Spotlight Climate Change, Smog Challenges at COP29

Islamabad: Pakistan is set to emphasize its climate action efforts and the pressing issue of smog at the upcoming COP29 in Azerbaijan, according to Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change.
Speaking on a private news channel, Romina outlined Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its position on global climate issues by collaborating with international partners.
Romina highlighted that COP29 would serve as a platform to showcase Pakistan’s strategies for climate fragility and resilience, stressing the need for intensified actions to address the escalating challenges posed by climate change.
While acknowledging the country’s efforts, she emphasized the importance of scaling up initiatives to effectively tackle the growing climate crisis.
Calling for a united front, Romina urged governments, cities, businesses, and citizens to join forces in combating climate change through shared resources, expertise, and collective action. She also called on media, youth, and NGOs to collaborate with the government in raising awareness and advocating for climate justice.
This, she noted, would empower local communities to take proactive measures and drive the change needed to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Romina’s remarks underscored the urgency of a collaborative approach to achieving climate goals and ensuring that communities, especially vulnerable ones, are equipped to adapt to the challenges ahead.
