Multan: Pakistan’s Test Vice-Captain Saud Shakeel expressed confidence on Saturday that the national team is prepared to overcome past mistakes and deliver a strong performance in the upcoming Test series against England.
Speaking to the media ahead of the series, Shakeel emphasized that the team had learned valuable lessons from previous matches and was ready to exploit England’s aggressive playing style.
With just a day left before the start of the series, Shakeel shared insights into the team’s preparation, the game plan, and the mindset heading into the matches. While commenting on the pitch conditions in Multan, he admitted that there was uncertainty regarding how it would behave. “At this point, it is hard to predict whether the pitch will be fast or slow,” he said, but assured that Pakistan is ready for all possibilities.
Discussing the difference in responsibilities between captain and vice-captain, Shakeel noted the challenges that come with leadership. “There is a big difference between a captain and a vice-captain. The captain carries a lot more responsibility,” he explained.
Reflecting on the team’s recent performances, Shakeel acknowledged that Pakistan did not play well in the previous series but was confident in their ability to improve. “Our goal is to force England into making mistakes,” he said, adding that while England plays an attacking brand of cricket, it creates opportunities for Pakistan to capitalize on their errors.
The vice-captain also pointed out the relative inexperience of England’s fast bowlers, which Pakistan plans to take advantage of during the series. “Their fast bowlers do not have as much experience, and we aim to capitalize on that,” Shakeel remarked.
Despite England’s aggressive style, Shakeel remained optimistic about Pakistan’s chances. “We are here to perform and execute our plans. We were close to winning in previous Test matches, and now we hope to deliver a strong performance,” he added.
Shutting down rumors of division within the squad, Shakeel affirmed that the team is united and in high spirits. “There is no groupism in the team. The environment in the dressing room is excellent, and the team is fully prepared for the Test series,” he stated.
With high hopes and a determined mindset, Saud Shakeel’s confidence reflects Pakistan’s readiness to challenge England and deliver an exciting series for cricket fans.
