Pakistan Reports Increase in Polio Cases

Islamabad: The report that was presented by the Ministry of Health on the number of polio cases reported in Pakistan over the past three years is a matter of concern. According to the data submitted to the National Assembly, there has been a substantial increase in polio cases in 2023 and 2024 compared to earlier years.

In 2021, only one case of polio was reported; but this increased to twenty cases in 2022 and then eight cases were reported in 2023. For now, 2024 has already witnessed 16 polio cases so far.

The ongoing challenges to eradicating polio from Pakistan are highlighted by the Ministry of Health’s report.

The attempt at eradicating the virus has been concerted; however, it continues to prevail in some parts of the country posing danger to public health.
