Pakistan Ranks 198th in Global Internet Speeds

Islamabad: According to a report by the World Population Review, Pakistan ranks 198th globally in internet speed. The country is ranked lower than Palestine, Bhutan, Ghana, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and Libya. Pakistan’s average mobile internet download speed is 19.59 Mbps, while broadband speeds average 15.52 Mbps.
In contrast, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) leads the world in both mobile and broadband internet speeds, followed by Singapore in mobile internet and Qatar in broadband. Hong Kong and Chile take the third and fourth spots for mobile internet speeds, respectively.
The report predicts that internet speeds will improve with future technological advancements. Sajjad Mustafa Syed, Chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), stated that the current internet speed issues should be resolved within three months, despite concerns that the implementation of a firewall may cause connectivity problems.
He mentioned, “If a message is being sent via WhatsApp but images are not transmitting, it could indicate that monitoring is occurring.”
Users across various regions of Pakistan have been experiencing intermittent internet outages and slower speeds, which have disrupted their ability to browse, download, and share media.
Reports suggest that both Wi-Fi and mobile data services are suffering from significant slowdowns, making it difficult for users to send or receive media files, including images, videos, and voice notes on platforms like WhatsApp.
