Islamabad: In an unexpected diplomatic move, the Government of Pakistan has officially nominated former US President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, lauding his role in defusing the 2025 crisis between nuclear-armed neighbors Pakistan and India.

In a statement shared via its official social media account, the government credited Trump’s “strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship” with preventing a full-scale war following what Pakistan described as “unprovoked and unlawful Indian aggression.” The statement said the aggression violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children.

In response, Pakistan launched “Operation Bunyanum Marsoos”—a military operation it characterized as a “measured, resolute, and precise” defensive action designed to restore deterrence while minimizing civilian harm.

The government highlighted that during the escalation, President Trump engaged diplomatically with both Islamabad and New Delhi, helping secure a ceasefire and de-escalate tensions at a critical moment.

“This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue,” the statement read.

Islamabad also acknowledged Trump’s repeated offers to mediate the decades-long Jammu and Kashmir dispute, calling the unresolved issue the “core of regional instability.” It emphasized that sustainable peace in South Asia depends on the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir.

The government further expressed appreciation for Trump’s continued diplomatic engagement on other global conflicts, including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and rising tensions involving Iran.

Pakistan’s formal nomination comes amid renewed calls for dialogue and multilateral diplomacy in South Asia and beyond.
