News Desk
Islamabad: Supreme Court Judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has highlighted the challenges Pakistan faces in dealing with climate change, emphasizing that it cannot be addressed without a compensation fund.
Speaking at the climate change conference in Islamabad, Justice Shah underscored the nation’s collective commitment to combating climate change.
He pointed out the severe flood that struck Pakistan in 2022, which impacted thousands of people and resulted in billions of dollars in losses. Justice Shah noted that Pakistan ranks as the fifth most vulnerable country to climate change.
According to Justice Shah, climate change is exacerbating water scarcity in Pakistan, leading to issues such as droughts and floods.
It is also raising temperatures and causing food shortages. He stressed that climate change poses a significant threat to people’s lives, affects health facilities, and hampers agricultural production.
