Islamabad: Agha’s Record-Breaking Cameo Headlines Pakistan’s Narrow Defeat in Dambulla
Pakistan may have fallen short in the third T20I against Sri Lanka in Dambulla, but captain Salman Ali Agha ensured the match ended with a moment of history despite the loss.
Chasing a challenging target of 198, Pakistan lost by 14 runs, bringing the series to a 1-1 draw. While the result went Sri Lanka’s way, Agha’s explosive late assault stole the spotlight, as he smashed 45 runs off just 12 balls to push the contest into a tense finish.

The innings, played at a remarkable strike rate of 375.0, set a new T20I record for the highest strike rate by a captain (minimum 10 balls faced) in matches between full-member nations. In doing so, Agha surpassed the previous mark held by former West Indies star Kieron Pollard.
Known primarily for his off-spin and all-round abilities, Agha showcased his power-hitting credentials in the closing overs, hammering five fours and three sixes. The knock underlined his growing impact as a batter and highlighted his ability to change games rapidly in the shortest format.
As Pakistan continue to build towards the 2026 T20 World Cup, Agha’s performance is being viewed as another encouraging sign of his evolution into a more complete, impact-driven leader, capable of contributing decisively with both bat and ball.
