Islamabad: Pakistan’s second communication satellite, Paksat MM1, has been successfully launched into space.
This achievement has been met with congratulations, highlighting Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s role in this significant milestone.
A spokesperson for the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) announced that Paksat MM1 was launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
The five-ton satellite is equipped with state-of-the-art communication technology and is set to enhance internet connectivity in Pakistan.
The satellite is destined for a geostationary orbit at an altitude of 36,000 kilometers above Earth, a journey expected to take three to four days.
Once operational, Paksat MM1 will play a crucial role in advancing e-commerce, e-governance, and various economic activities in Pakistan.
Developed in collaboration with SUPARCO and the Chinese aerospace industry, Paksat MM1 has an expected operational lifespan of 15 years. It boasts a KA-band capacity of 10 gigabytes per second and is scheduled to begin service in August this year.
With this launch, Pakistan now has two communication satellites in space. The first, Paksat-1R, was launched in 2011 and is set to remain operational until 2026.
Additionally, Pakistan’s remote sensing satellite, PRSS-1, was launched in 2018 and is also currently in orbit.
