Islamabad/New Delhi: The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India held a crucial conversation on Monday following an earlier delay, during which both sides agreed to uphold the ceasefire and avoid actions that could endanger civilian lives, Indian media reported.

According to Indian news outlets, the DGMOs from both countries reiterated their commitment to maintaining the ceasefire and agreed to halt any cross-border firing. “Both sides will refrain from targeting civilian populations and will avoid infiltration attempts, including the use of drones,” reports said.

The scheduled communication, initially set for 11am, was postponed without an official explanation and was later expected to take place in the evening. The high-level military engagement followed a meeting chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, signaling the significance New Delhi placed on the talks.

The Pakistani DGMO was scheduled to engage with his Indian counterpart, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, as part of an existing understanding to reduce hostilities along the Line of Control (LoC). The renewed contact follows a statement by US President Donald Trump declaring an end to heightened tensions along the border.

Just days before the interaction, Major General Ahmed Sharif, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), reaffirmed Pakistan’s openness to military-to-military communication with India. He emphasized that DGMO-level talks are a routine mechanism to preserve peace along the LoC and prevent escalation.\

As of Monday afternoon, the fragile ceasefire, established through prior military understandings, was holding. Officials confirmed that the military hotlines between the two nations had been reactivated to manage future incidents.

In a recent press briefing, DG ISPR Major General Sharif stressed the importance of restraint and dialogue, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to keeping military communication channels active to maintain regional stability.

The international community continues to watch the developments with concern, cautioning that any breakdown in dialogue could risk renewed conflict in the absence of a broader diplomatic solution.
