Islamabad: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined the Pakistan cricket team 10 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand.

According to ICC regulations, teams are required to complete their allotted overs within a specific time frame. However, Pakistan fell short by two overs, resulting in the penalty. As per ICC rules, a 5 percent fine on the match fee is imposed for each over bowled beyond the allotted time, leading to a total deduction of 10 percent from the players’ earnings.

In another development, New Zealand batter Mark Chapman has been ruled out of the second ODI against Pakistan due to a hamstring injury. Wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert has been inducted into the Black Caps’ squad as Chapman’s replacement.

Chapman had played a pivotal role in the first ODI at McLean Park in Napier, scoring a career-best 132 runs.

His resilient innings challenged the Pakistan bowlers and helped New Zealand recover after an early setback. The left-hander’s hard-fought knock not only steadied the innings but also allowed other batters to take control, with debutant Muhammad Abbas further capitalizing by smashing the fastest fifty on debut for New Zealand.

Pakistan will face New Zealand in the second ODI at Seddon Park in Hamilton tomorrow, aiming to bounce back after their defeat in the opening match.
