Faisalabad: Breast cancer has reached alarming levels in Pakistan, with approximately 90,000 women diagnosed with the disease each year, resulting in 45,000 deaths annually.

Health experts highlighted these concerning statistics during a breast cancer awareness seminar organized by the University Medical & Dental College (UMDC) of The University of Faisalabad (TUF).
Experts revealed that globally, breast cancer affects one woman every three minutes, while a patient succumbs to the disease every 12 minutes. This pressing issue calls for coordinated efforts from all stakeholders to improve awareness and treatment.

PINUM Hospital Head of the Oncology Department Dr Rafshan Sadiq emphasized that many women hesitate to consult doctors when they notice changes in their chest area. “Often, patients seek treatment only when breast cancer has reached an advanced stage,” she said, adding that early detection significantly increases the chances of a cure.

Additionally, poster and documentary competitions were organized for female students of the university.
