Islamabad: The federal government has declared a four-day public holiday in observance of Eidul Adha, according to ARY News on Monday.

As per the official notification, the Eid holidays will be observed from Friday, June 6, to Monday, June 9, following approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

This announcement comes after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed that the Zil Hajj moon was not sighted in Pakistan on Tuesday. As a result, the first day of Eidul Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7.

The moon-sighting committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, convened in Islamabad and reported that no credible moon sighting testimonies were received from key cities including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, and Islamabad.

Separately, the Balochistan government has also declared a four-day public holiday for Eidul Adha, from Thursday, June 5, to Sunday, June 8, anticipating Eid to fall on Saturday, June 7.

Eidul Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is observed on the 10th day of Zil Hajj. It is one of the two major Islamic festivals and is celebrated around 70 days after Eid al-Fitr. The holiday commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.

Traditionally, the occasion is marked by the ritual sacrifice of animals, with the meat distributed among family, friends, and those in need. This practice, known as Sunnat-e Ibrahimi, continues for the three days of Eid.
