Islamabad: The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed a new polio case from District Bannu in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

This marks the third reported case from the province and the eighth polio case in Pakistan so far this year.

The confirmation comes amid the country’s second nationwide anti-polio campaign of 2025, which runs from April 21 to 27, targeting 45.4 million children under the age of five across Pakistan.

Another national campaign is scheduled to take place from May 26 to June 1.

The Polio Eradication Programme has issued an urgent appeal to parents, urging them to ensure their children receive repeated doses of the vaccine to protect them from the crippling poliovirus.

Health officials emphasized that the ongoing campaign is a crucial opportunity to immunize children and prevent further spread of the disease.
