Pakistan Stresses Continued Assistance for Afghanistan
News Desk
Islamabad: At the United Nations, Pakistan has cautioned that reducing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan would be immoral and politically ineffective as it would hurt the human rights of 28 million Afghan people who are already living in abject poverty.
United Nations Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Munir Akram called for the full funding of the UN Secretary General’s 4.2 billion dollars recovery plan for Afghanistan, while speaking on the situation in Afghanistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
A more comprehensive international effort is needed in order to rebuild the Afghan economy, and its banking and financial sector, and put the many connectivity initiatives into action, suggested Munir Akram.
Ambassador Akram stated that Pakistan has recently had a string of such terrorist assaults coming from the Tehreek-e-Taliban-e-Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorist organizations in Afghanistan, both of which receive outside funding. He expressed grave concern over the terrorist strikes occurring both within and from Afghanistan.
He also expressed the hope that the anomaly of the UN representation of Afghanistan would soon be resolved. Afghanistan is still represented by an appointee of the country’s defunct regime of President Ashraf Ghani.
