Lahore: Pakistan has announced its 18-member squad for the upcoming three-Test series against Australia from December 14 to January 4, 2023. Chief Selector Wahab Riaz highlighted the inclusion of newcomers Saim Ayub and Khurram Shahzad, citing their impressive domestic performances.

Saim Ayub, a left-handed opening batter, earned his call-up after a stellar Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, amassing 553 runs in four matches, including a match-winning double century. Khurram Shahzad, a right-arm fast bowler, secured his spot as the highest wicket-taker in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with 36 wickets in eight matches.

Shan Masood will lead the team as Test captain for the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. Notable returns include Faheem Ashraf, Mir Hamza, and Mohammad Wasim Jr., compensating for the absence of injured pace bowlers Naseem Shah and Muhammad Hasnain.

The squad composition emphasizes adaptability to Australian conditions, with a focus on pace and bounce. Additionally, a preparatory camp including players like Arshad Iqbal, Shadab Khan, and Usman Qadir will commence on November 23 at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.
