Pak, Azerbaijan Joint Efforts to Tackle Climate Crisis

Islamabad: Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change, emphasized that Azerbaijan and Pakistan are set to prioritize climate action and adaptation plans, as well as transparency reporting, during the upcoming COP-29 in Baku.
Speaking alongside Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources and President-designate of COP-29, at F-9 Park, she highlighted discussions between the two governments on crucial topics such as the National Adaptation Plan, the Green Pakistan Programme, the Living Indus Initiative, and mobilization for the Loss and Damage Fund.
These discussions also encompassed Climate Finance, G-77 plus China collaboration, and elevating the concerns of the most climate-vulnerable states at COP forums. Khurshid mentioned that Azerbaijan extended an invitation to attend COP-29 to Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister.
She also noted the initiation of the One House, One Tree program (Green Pakistan Programme) in Saudi Arabia, where Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination are providing assistance to the Saudi government.
Additionally, she announced that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will lead the Pakistani delegation at COP-29.
Mukhtar Babayev expressed Azerbaijan’s commitment to promoting collective efforts within the climate agenda and reaffirmed this pledge by planting trees at F-9 Park.
He highlighted extensive discussions with Pakistani partners on common aspects of climate change and thanked the Pakistani government for the opportunity to engage in dialogue regarding COP-29 preparations and climate agenda deliberations. Babayev emphasized their shared goal of promoting climate action, viewing Pakistan as a key ally in this endeavor, with further meetings planned to strengthen collaboration.
