Islamabad/Rawalpindi: In a decisive move to protect consumers ahead of Ramzan, the Islamabad district administration on Friday arrested 14 vendors for overcharging, while the Rawalpindi police continued operations against criminals, including drug dealers and illegal arms owners.

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration’s crackdown targeted Sector I-8 and the vegetable market, urging citizens to report violations of the official price list.

According to an ICT administration spokesman, the strict campaign against overpricing led to the arrest of 14 vendors for selling goods at rates higher than the government-mandated prices.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, called on citizens to support the administration’s efforts by reporting violations.

“We need the public’s help to identify those who violate the official price list,” he said, emphasizing that enforcing government rates is crucial in addressing overpricing. Regular inspections are being conducted to ensure compliance, and legal action is being taken against those found guilty of overcharging.

Memon assured that the administration has set up helplines and dedicated teams to respond promptly to complaints. He also warned vendors against hoarding, emphasizing that strict measures will be enforced to prevent exploitation during Ramzan.

“We are determined to ensure that no one takes advantage of the increased demand during this holy month,” he added.

Local residents welcomed the crackdown, expressing relief that steps were being taken to control prices. Increased market inspections and stock monitoring are also being implemented to further curb hoarding and overpricing. Vendors have been directed to prominently display official price lists, with penalties for non-compliance.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi police intensified their operations against criminal activities, arresting four individuals involved in drug dealing, liquor supply, and illegal arms possession.

According to a police spokesman, Taxila Police arrested Saeed Akhtar with 1.26 kilograms of charas, while Morgah Police apprehended Awais, recovering five litres of alcohol. Similarly, the Airport and Wah Saddar Police arrested Asif and Talat Khan, seizing a 30-bore pistol from each.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order, ensuring that both economic and criminal activities are closely monitored to safeguard public welfare.

As Ramzan approaches, the Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations remain vigilant in their efforts to protect consumers and uphold security measures.
