Over 785 PSVs Impounded for Safety Violations in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: The police have intensified their crackdown on unfit Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) under the directive of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani.

The ongoing campaign has resulted in the impounding of 785 vehicles and the issuance of 6,226 challan slips over the past 35 days.

According to a police spokesperson, violators have been fined over Rs 6.5 million during the operation. The police are rigorously inspecting PSVs for roadworthiness, checking driver licenses, and verifying route permits.

As part of the crackdown, 546 drivers have been fined for not possessing valid licenses, while 27 drivers have had their licenses cancelled due to negligence.

Additionally, 44 cases have been registered against both drivers and vehicle owners for failing to meet safety standards. The police have reiterated that these efforts are aimed at ensuring the safety of the public.

Police teams are also monitoring vehicle travel times to prevent reckless driving. Strict action will be taken against those endangering citizens’ lives, including PSV owners and bus terminal managers found to be negligent.

A special squad from the City Traffic Police has been deployed at bus terminals to enforce compliance with safety regulations.
