Islamabad: A violent clash between two student groups at Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, left over 25 students injured late on Saturday night, raising concerns about campus safety. The incident occurred near the university hostels when tensions escalated between the Punjabi Students group and the Pakhtun Students group.

According to university officials, the confrontation began when a member of the Pakhtun students group, Muzammil Marwat, sustained serious head injuries after being assaulted by members of the Punjabi Students group.

This altercation triggered a larger conflict, with around 70 to 80 students from the Punjabi Students group, led by Punjab Council Chairman Rana Hassan, gathering near hostel number seven, reportedly armed with sticks and iron rods.

Meanwhile, approximately 300 students from the Pakhtun Students group, led by Pakhtunkhwa Community Students Chairman Asad Turi, assembled near the New Cafeteria, also wielding similar weapons.

The clash between the two groups, lasting about 40 minutes, resulted in more than two dozen students being injured. The university administration promptly called the police, who intervened to bring the situation under control.

A case has been registered at the Secretariat police station under FIR No. 458/24, invoking sections of the law dealing with causing harm, issuing threats, and unlawful assembly.

The university administration has lodged complaints against members of both student groups involved in the incident, and legal action is now underway as authorities investigate further.

This incident has once again sparked concerns over rising tensions between student groups at QAU. Students and staff are calling for stricter measures to prevent future violence and ensure campus safety.

Although the university has yet to issue an official statement, the campus remains on high alert as authorities work to restore order.
