Over 20,000 Tons of Garbage Disposed in 15 Days: RWMC

Rawalpindi: During the 15-day period of the month-long Suthra Punjab cleanliness campaign initiated on March 1, the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority, disposed of approximately 20,291 tons of garbage from Rawalpindi city and its tehsils.
Providing a breakdown of the collected garbage, an RWMC spokesperson stated that the teams gathered around 10,681 tons from Rawalpindi and Murree, 424 tons from Gujar Khan, 1000 tons from Kallar Syedan, Kahuta, and Taxila, while 669 tons were collected from private housing societies.
Additionally, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) contributed by dumping 8,516 tons of garbage at the Losar dump station.
Furthermore, RWMC successfully addressed 92 out of the total 127 complaints received via social media platforms within the last week.
Simultaneously, extensive awareness campaigns were conducted, including the distribution of pamphlets and display of banners, to educate the public.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Aamir Khattak, Chairman RWMC Saqib Rafiq, and CEO RWMC Rana Sajid Safdar conducted daily inspections of various Union Councils, engaging with residents to gather feedback and suggestions for the cleanliness campaign.
It was noted that mechanical washing and sweeping operations were carried out at night, while regular cleaning of containers stationed across the city was also undertaken.
Moreover, RWMC’s communication and social mobilization team conducted awareness campaigns on the dangers of smog and dengue in commercial areas and educational institutions. Residents were encouraged to cooperate with RWMC staff to achieve the goal of making Rawalpindi a zero-waste district.
