Islamabad: Spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister, Faizullah Faraq, confirmed on Thursday that the government is taking all necessary measures to rescue tourists stranded at Babusar Top following a deadly flash flood triggered by a cloudburst.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with a local news channel, Faraq said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken serious notice of the incident, while Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister has issued strict directives to hold any negligent officials accountable.

“The Prime Minister’s direct involvement has galvanized the government’s efforts to manage the crisis swiftly and effectively,” Faraq said, adding that emergency resources are being fully deployed to rescue the stranded and provide relief to affected areas.

The spokesperson stated that a rapid response plan has been executed, with rescue teams, emergency services, and the armed forces actively engaged in the operation. Helicopters were also deployed to evacuate those stranded and deliver essential supplies.

Faraq confirmed that no tourists remain trapped as of now, and that between 200 to 250 people have been successfully rescued and relocated to nearby hotels, where they are being provided free food, shelter, and medical care.

He described the incident as unprecedented, saying it was the first time in history such a calamity had occurred at Babusar Top. “The government is fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all affected visitors,” he assured.

To prevent future incidents, the Chief Minister has also directed authorities to prioritize road infrastructure improvements and ensure regular maintenance to guarantee safe travel for both tourists and locals.
