Ophthalmia Prevention: KP Health Department Issues Guidelines

Peshawar: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has issued advisory guidelines to the administrations of all districts on how to prevent the ophthalmia (pink-eye) epidemic that spread across the province.
Health Department issued a notification to the entire medical superintendents on Saturday and directed them to display banners in prominent places depicting necessary preventive measures for preventing ophthalmia.
Additionally, it has been ordered to ensure the availability of stock medications and to adopt anti-epidemic precautions for hospital employees.
The KP Health Dept. has also formed a comprehensive plan to launch an awareness campaign about the pink-eye epidemic in public schools.
Meanwhile, medical professionals have urged individuals to practice good hand hygiene and refrain from rubbing the affected eye.
Experts requested that a clean towel be used and that it not be shared. In order to protect themselves from the sickness, women have also been advised to refrain from wearing eye makeup that contains cosmetics.
The steps have been taken in view of the increasing number of pink-eye-affected patients in hospitals, especially school-going children.
