OpenAI Launches Text-to-Video Model Sora
News Desk
Islamabad: OpenAI announced on Monday that it has released its artificial intelligence model, Sora, which generates video from text, to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. This marks an expansion of the company’s efforts into multimodal AI technologies.
Sora, which was initially introduced in February and available only to safety testers in a research preview phase, is now being made available to a broader audience as Sora Turbo, with no additional cost.
The move positions OpenAI to compete with similar text-to-video tools from Meta, Alphabet’s Google, and Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion. The company also stated it is working on a tailored pricing model for different types of users, which will be launched in early 2025.
With Sora, users can create videos up to 1080p resolution, lasting up to 20 seconds, and in various aspect ratios, including widescreen, vertical, and square. However, Sora will not be available in the EU, Switzerland, or the UK at this time, though it will be accessible in other regions where ChatGPT is available.
To prevent misuse, OpenAI has implemented safeguards to block the creation and upload of harmful content, such as child sexual abuse materials and deepfakes. The company also plans to limit the upload of people’s likenesses initially, with plans to expand the feature as it improves its deepfake detection technology.
