NUST Confers Honorary PhD Degree Upon Malaysia’s PM

Islamabad: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad conferred an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree upon the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during a special convocation held at the university’s main campus.
During the ceremony, the Malaysian premier delivered a keynote address on Allama Iqbal, reflecting on Iqbal’s philosophy and its relevance to balanced development, inclusive growth, and individual well-being.
He expressed his deep appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to him by the people of Pakistan, expressing hope that the relationship between the two nations would continue to grow stronger.
“I am sincerely thankful for the warmth and hospitality extended to me by the government and people of Pakistan, and I hope that our two nations will continue to grow even closer, forging stronger ties for the future,” the Prime Minister remarked.
In his acceptance speech, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed profound gratitude for the honorary doctorate. “With great humility, and in the spirit of Iqbal, I accept this honour on behalf of the people of Malaysia as a symbol of the deep intellectual and cultural connection between our nations,” he stated.
He praised NUST, calling it a beacon of excellence in education, research, and innovation.
Addressing the students, Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged their potential and dedication, linking their presence at NUST to Iqbal’s philosophy of continual self-improvement. He said, “Just as Iqbal’s philosophy calls for continual self-improvement, your journey here will shape not only your own future but also the destiny of this nation.”
Earlier in the event, Lt Gen (Retd) Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, Rector of NUST, extended a warm welcome to the Malaysian Prime Minister and other foreign and Pakistani dignitaries. The Rector highlighted the leadership and accomplishments of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and underscored the strong potential for academic and research collaborations between Malaysian and Pakistani universities, particularly with NUST.
Prominent attendees included Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Sajid Baloch, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch, and several cabinet members from Malaysia. The event also drew a large audience of students, senior academics, thought leaders, and media professionals.
It was further announced that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s book, SCRIPT for a Better Malaysia, first published in 2022, is being translated into Urdu by a Pakistani university, marking another significant step in fostering cultural ties between the two nations.
