Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s Unheard Recordings Unveiled At Paris Premiere

Islamabad: An exclusive event celebrating the music of the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was held at the Silencio des Prés in Paris, where his lost album, Chain of Light, featuring previously unreleased recordings from 1990, was unveiled.

Hosted by Saiyna Bashir Studios in collaboration with the British Council and Real World, the premiere honoured Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s enduring legacy and offered attendees a first look at Chain of Light.

The event also provided a preview of the upcoming documentary USTAD, a tribute to the Qawwali maestro, which is set for release in 2025.

Zakir Thaver and Saiyna Bashir, the minds behind the documentary, also met with Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad to discuss the project.

Chain of Light includes four traditional qawwalis performed by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his Qawwal party, recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in 1990.

The tracklist features “Ya Allah Ya Rehman,” “Aaj Sik Mitran Di,” “Khabram Raseed Imshab,” and “Ya Ghaus Ya Meeran,” the latter being previously unreleased. This release marks a significant moment for fans of the legendary singer, showcasing the timeless nature of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s music.
