Normal Precipitation, Heatwave Predicted From March To May

Lahore: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that the majority of the country should experience near-normal precipitation, above-average temperatures, and a probability of heatwave occurrences from March to May.

According to the Met Office, the long-lasting La-Ni situation has finally made transition to a neutral state and is anticipated to stay that way during March, April and May 2023.

According to the broad global and regional circulation patterns, most of the country is anticipated to get precipitation that is nearly normal. The majority of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s northern areas may get precipitation that is a little below average. Across the majority of the country, seasonal mean temperatures are anticipated to stay above average with a probability of heat wave events.

The Rabi crops will develop earlier as a result of the anticipated warmer weather in the upcoming months, and the standing crops’ (Kharif season) water needs will probably increase.

In large cities like Islamabad and Lahore, the rise in maximum temperature and dry weather would favour the early start of pollen season.

The atmospheric conditions point to the possibility of a heat wave developing over the season, particularly over the plain areas of the country. Water stress is anticipated for agriculture and domestic demands throughout the upcoming season due to high temperatures. APP
