No Cleanup in Sight as Monsoon Returns to Karachi

News Desk

Karachi: The third spell of monsoon is set to hit Karachi starting tomorrow, yet large parts of the city remain ill-prepared for the expected downpour, with stormwater drains still clogged with garbage and debris.

At Gulistan-e-Jauhar, the Johar Nullah remains choked with waste, raising fresh concerns over potential urban flooding. Despite early weather alerts, no significant efforts have been made to clear the drain, residents say.

“We’ve never witnessed a proper cleanup of this drain,” a local resident told reporters, pointing to the continued inaction of municipal authorities.

Every year, residents complain of overflowing drains and flooded streets during monsoon season, yet the situation remains unchanged. As the city braces for another round of heavy rain, citizens fear a repeat of previous years’ chaos unless immediate drainage and cleanup operations are carried out.
