Nipah Virus Alert in Kerala

Kerala: An alert has been issued in the Indian state of Kerala following the death of a 14-year-old boy from the Nipah virus. 

In response, 246 people who had close contact with the infected child are being quarantined and tested, with 63 categorized as high risk.

The Nipah virus, transmitted from pigs and bats to humans, has no vaccine or specific treatment. The state has experienced several Nipah virus outbreaks since 2018, leading to school and office closures in previous years.
