Islamabad: Another polio case has been reported in Pakistan, raising the total number of cases this year to 13, according to ARY News, citing official sources.

The latest case has been confirmed by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and involves a one-and-a-half-year-old girl from Ama Khel Union Council in Tank district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

So far in 2025, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported seven polio cases, Sindh has confirmed four, while Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan have each recorded one case.

Earlier this year, two more cases were reported from the Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Lakki Marwat, a 26-month-old girl from Union Council Bakhmal Ahmad Zai, Sarai Naurang tehsil, tested positive for the virus after showing symptoms on April 22.

About Polio:
Polio is a highly infectious disease that causes paralysis and has no cure. The best protection against the virus is repeated doses of the oral polio vaccine and ensuring children complete their routine immunizations before the age of five.

To fight the disease, Pakistan’s Polio Program regularly conducts nationwide vaccination campaigns, delivering vaccines door-to-door. Additionally, the Expanded Program on Immunization offers free vaccines against 12 preventable childhood diseases at public health facilities.

Health authorities stress that it is vital for all parents to ensure their children under five are fully vaccinated to protect them from this debilitating disease.
