Islamabad: Netflix has announced a price increase for subscriptions in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Argentina, and Portugal, following a significant surge in subscribers at the end of 2024.

The streaming service added nearly 19 million new subscribers in the final months of the year, driven by popular content such as the second season of the South Korean drama Squid Game and live events like the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match.

In the U.S., most subscription plans will see price hikes. The standard ad-free plan will rise from $15.49 to $17.99 per month, while the ad-supported plan will increase by $1 to $7.99. Netflix justified the increase, stating, “We will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can reinvest to further improve Netflix.”

For the UK, Netflix has confirmed there are no immediate plans to adjust prices.

The platform also plans to expand its live event offerings, including WWE wrestling, and has secured broadcasting rights for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031. This move is part of Netflix’s strategy to diversify its content and stay competitive in the streaming market.
