Islamabad: Netflix has officially announced its first live-action adaptation of the beloved Scooby-Doo franchise, marking a major milestone for the iconic mystery-solving team.
This eight-episode series will serve as an origin story, tracing how Mystery Inc. first came together.
According to the official synopsis, the series follows Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp, where they stumble upon a lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
Alongside Velma, a scientifically minded local, and Freddy, a mysterious newcomer, the group embarks on a chilling adventure that unearths hidden secrets.
Netflix describes the series as a “modern reimagining” of the classic detective team and their talking dog. The show will be penned by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg under the banner of Midnight Radio, though casting details have yet to be revealed.
A Legacy of Mystery and Adventure
Since its debut in 1969 with Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! on CBS, the franchise—created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears—has captivated audiences for generations.
The story follows four teenagers—Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy—along with their talking Great Dane, Scooby-Doo, as they travel in their Mystery Machine van solving eerie cases.
Over the decades, Scooby-Doo has inspired numerous animated series, TV specials, direct-to-video films, and two live-action movies—Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004)—which starred Matthew Lillard as Shaggy and Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne.
Unlike previous live-action adaptations, Netflix’s version will take a fresh approach by exploring the origins of the beloved characters, offering a deeper look into the friendships and mysteries that shaped Mystery Inc.
